John and I planned a 15th anniversary celebration at Temple Gardens Mineral Spa in Moose Jaw, never expecting how nostalgic a trip it would be for us. In 2000 we left Yellowknife, NT and moved to Caronport, SK so John could study at Briercrest Seminary. He completed his MDiv in pastoral theology in 2004. During those four years we had an eight month stint in Pierceland, SK where John was a part time pastor and a part time student. So basically we lived in Caronport for four years. John studied and I taught high school science. It was good, although hard at times and we were happy to leave in 2004 to move forward into ministry. While we were there we often spoke of Yellowknife and the life we had there; we had lived there for the first four years of our marriage. We still speak fondly of the four years in Yellowknife and the adventure we had there. We've never thought of Caronport and Moose Jaw in the same way. Until now.
On the way to Moose Jaw we stopped in Caronport to cruise around and see the changes. Then we went into the seminary to see if there were any familiar faces. We were able to visit with two of John's former profs - one of them even remembered my name. It was nice to be back and feel like we were "home". In Moose Jaw we were hit with nostalgia. The streets, the shops, the parks, the stores all brought back memories of places we had been and things we had done. It was surreal and comforting at the same time. Everything was so familiar.
We made some new memories, enjoying the spa and indulging ourselves: pedicure, massage, reflexology, expensive dinners and long walks. We even stopped at Joe's Place, asking for a tour and connecting with someone from the past. It was a great celebration of 15 years together!
