John's been without work for almost two months now. Job searching is such a chore. He hates it and I hate living in limbo. Unfortunately a “philosophy degree” makes John a generalist, but a hiring department doesn’t see it that way. After we left Weyburn, John applied for about 80 jobs in a two-year period. I thought he qualified for all of them. He is so capable of doing all kinds of things; he just doesn’t have the technical degree that so many hiring committees or human resource managers want to see.
Having said that, we got a phone call from the administrator for the Town last week. John had met with the mayor for a meeting while working at the College, and apparently really impressed him. So now the administrator had heard John was looking for work and indicated she likely has an opening for him. Wow! It's like the job just fell into his lap.
John met with her; it looks good. She wanted him to start right away, but Council has a say in the matter. I think he just wants a temporary contract for a few months, just to get an idea if he is a good fit and if he likes this kind of work. Apparently, the office politics in the town office has been just as bad as in the College. They are trying to do some restructuring; it's pretty bad.
In the mean time, he is still considering if pastoring is for him. We were in Brandon this past weekend to visit a church, but there are some yellow flags, so we’re skeptical that will happen. There could be some possibilities somewhere else, though.
We’re patiently waiting and working to see God’s plan for us fall into place. (Well, trying to be patient anyway.)
