More of the same seems to be the highlight of the Enns-Wind’s year. The primary difference, however, seems to be the speed at which events transpire. Pants: are they not supposed to last longer than six months? Holes we can accept but being too short? It seems that no sooner does John, Josh, or Austin move into some new clothes than they are moving out of them. So, even though this year has seen more of the same there has been change.
There have been many achievements this past year:
John N, started karate and has earned his orange belt. John is also getting ready to enter his fifth book of guitar lessons in about a year and half. This past summer he worked his way up from level three to level six in swimming. His is enjoying grade four and for the second year running he won a reading contest and was Santa in the school’s Christmas concert. John also participates in AWANA and has successfully moved onto the next level. Fore! Yup, John started golf and the improvements were dramatic. He is likely to be better than his dad; which is natural.
How do you say: growing like a week? Josh. He is like his mother in that he can eat anything and not gain a pound but unlike her he seems to gain inches in height. Yes, he is even catching up to his big brother. He started grade one this fall and is reading fluently. Josh earned his level two in swimming this past summer and three yellow stripes at his recent karate examination. Last week Josh was invited to play in the music festival in the New Year; he is very excited about performing. If you are a pin be aware because Josh’s accuracy, and score, improved dramatically this past year while bowling. Speaking of balls, Josh played tee ball this year and it is safe to say that it is improbable that we will be gaining a pension from MLB. A highlight for Josh was attending his first Bible camp and being away from Mom and Dad for two nights and three days; he didn’t want to come home.
What can you say about a pint size of energy that doesn’t know how to walk but only run? What can you say about that bundle of energy hurling himself at larger brothers and dad in hopes of tackling them to the ground? We don’t know either but we call him Austin. Austin is slowly learning how to talk and that is leading to his frustration in expressing himself. Hockey, wrestling, tackling, games of ‘boo’, Lightening McQueen, Speed Racer, and Thomas the Tank Engine consume Austin’s imagination and play time while Dr. Seuss and Thomas the Tank Engine books often seem to occupy his reading.
Grades eleven and twelve physics and chemistry keep Annette busy at Kindersley Composite School. Annette has meshed with a couple of colleagues at the school and classes are going well. Annette was also playing piano for church and learned some new tunes. This past year it seems one of Annette’s favourite ways of relaxing was to bake and to quilt a little. One of Annette’s highlights this year was organizing and attending her 20-year high school reunion – John is shocked he is married to such a ‘mature’ woman; everyone had a blast.
John returned to the game of golf this past spring. This past season was one of gain and pain. His golf game improved but of course that improvement led to frustration that it did not improve more. Some of the golf highlights were shooting a 92 at the club championship and a 92 at a tournament course in Saskatoon. The slice off of his driver is still a work in process while John is happy with his progress in changing from a left-handed putter to a right-handed putter.
We were busy this past year. The boys attended Redberry Bible Camp and this is shaping up to be an annual tradition for John and Josh. Annette and John took in their annual opera in Saskatoon and Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan – John, John and Josh had lots of fun watching the sword fights in Henry III. Stuart McLean was in Saskatoon speaking at the teacher’s convention so John pretended he was a teacher and attended with Annette. A big road trip was part of John, John and Josh’s recent past. John’s mother’s husband died the end of October and the three of them drove to southern Ontario to attend the memorial service. Highlights included meeting aunts and cousins for the first time, seeing where grandma and grandpa live, seeing the Terry Fox statue in Thunder Bay, riding the GO Train to Toronto and visiting the Hockey Hall of Fame.
There is more but we don’t want to bore you or burden you. Instead we want to wish you a Merry Christmas and blessings throughout the New Year.
