I didn't think it would be this long between blog posts. Maybe I need to do something about catching up. The following is an excerpt from a letter I wrote to a cousin:
"We are doing okay. John has been battling a cough since September, so today he's on his way to Calgary today for an appointment at their Cough Clinic tomorrow. Hopefully he'll have some answers and begin to feel better. That's been a long haul. He has a blood disorder that he was born with, so his immune system is compromised and he finds it harder and harder to recover from colds and winter viruses.
The boys are doing well. They all play a musical instrument - John N plays flute; Josh plays percussion and piano; Austin plays piano - and play together on a sledge hockey team and are involved in some kind of church activity - Austin does Awana; Josh attends Club 756 as well as Jr. Youth; John N volunteers at Club 756 and attends Sr. Youth. It keeps us busy running around. They all did very well at our local music festival in March and then last weekend they enjoyed a sledge hockey tournament near Edmonton, AB.
Josh had pneumonia back in November and is still congested from such a serious illness, but he's gradually getting better. John N got braces in February and so complains regularly that he can't eat popcorn or that his mouth hurts. Austin had tubes put in his ears at the beginning of March, so he's adjusting to ear plugs and a better level of hearing. Normal kid stuff.
I'm still dealing with my ongoing headache. It's been two years now. Today is not so good, as the barometric pressure is rising. I finally saw a neurologist about two weeks ago and he's given me some hope that this will improve eventually. He's put me on new medication and he's scheduling me for an MRI, but that's at least a 6 month wait. I'm still working only 40% and that's good for now. My family has been so supportive and very patient, which is a huge blessing. At present my life is very small with just work and family.
So that's where we're at right now. We were home for Christmas and hosted my Mom, sister and brother-in-law. Then we did a quick trip to Banff at New Year's to see John's niece, who is traveling west and doing the party scene, and then my cousins, uncle and aunt in southern Alberta. This summer we plan to travel to Ontario to visit John's family. His Dad found a Coleman Tent Trailer for us which we're looking forward to picking up and using this summer."
